January 2011
Dear Parents

Welcome back after the Christmas break. May I wish you all a very happy New Year.

The building works is due to start a week on Monday, 17th January. None of the classrooms will be affected initially as the work will be digging foundations etc. However for the next two months Mrs McGregor and I will be sharing the library with Mrs Ball. This means that if there is any item of a confidential
nature then an appointment will have to be made so that I can arrange for a room in the presbytery. I am sorry for this inconvenience. Please note that there is no library this term due to the alterations. The children will be allowed to choose a book from the class library to take home in addition to their reading book.

The front of the school will be blocked off from the end of the office to the wall near the sandpit so although the yard can be accessed from Vaughan Rd, entrance into the school and collection for all children will be the rear
entrances next to the church. Everyone must use the back doors.

In the mornings Y1 and Reception will use the Y1 entrance and Y2 and the Nursery will use the Y2 entrance. All visitors to the school will use the Y2 entrance. A bell will be placed there and will ring in the library. Please allow us time to get to the door!! The gates will not be locked during the day during the work to allow access for visitors and deliveries. They will be shut at playtimes. We will start this next Friday so we can have a practice before the builders arrive!!

Until the main entrance is back in use the Reception class and siblings are to be collected from 3.05 so that Y1 and Reception are not leaving at the same time from the Y1 entrance. Children with siblings at Our Lady of Lourdes School can be collected at the normal time.

February 2011

Thank you very much for your co-operation during the works.  The pace seems to be picking up now.  We close on Friday for the half-term break. I hope that you all have a lovely week.

The whole school is taking part, along with other Southport schools in an enterprise project. Each school chooses their own way of promoting Southport.  St Teresa’s has decide their special theme will be to promote Southport as an excellent place for bird-watching.  Part of our work with the children will involve doing surveys, research, using ICT and design & technology.  It will encompass many of the curriculum areas.  Over half-term we would like the children to count the number of different types of birds they see and also the different places they notice birds.  Your co-operation in the project is greatly appreciated.

The Christmas video is near completion and I have been assured will be available straight after the half-term.

Before any Nursery child starts they have a home visit.  The home visits for the children starting after Easter are taking place on  7th and 8th April.  Therefore the Nursery will close on Wednesday, 6th April.  This is also the day that on which the Nursery will hold their Easter concert. There will be a separate concert for morning and afternoon children to which Nursery parents are invited.

We are shortly looking ahead to next year’s Nursery.  If you know anyone with a child who is three from 1st April 2011 onwards  please encourage them to get the name of their child down quickly.   It is very important that the numbers in our Nursery are respectable.  It will be a very exciting time for the Nursery with the new building extension due to be ready by the beginning of June 2011.

These are the gifts the children chose, with the concert money.

2 x immunisations

1 x Chickens

3x Pair of piglets

6 x school start pack

5 x vegetable gardens

I think your children chose wisely and what a super result from their hard work in the Christmas play!

A M Gavin (Miss) Headteacher.
