Newsletter July 2010
Dear Parents
I cannot believe that we are almost at the Summer holidays and it is time once again sadly to bid farewell to our Year 2 children. The comforting element is that I know that just as we never forget our pupils, they also never forget us. Indeed it was very pleasing to see so many former pupils helping out at the Fun Day, which raised an excellent £735. Well done to everyone, parishioners, parents, grandparents and youngsters alike for such a magnificent effort. Through matched funding we will be receiving a further £500 from Barclay’s Bank. The amount for the adventure trail sponsor which was completed by all pupils last Friday morning is still unknown as sponsor money will be coming in throughout the week but it would be our best effort ever if we were able to reach £1500 total through the three sources. This money is going to buy new equipment etc., for the classes after our building project has been completed—possibly as early as next May. This means that everyone will have something new to look forward to whether part of the project or not!
We are also saying farewell to Mrs Horan who is leaving us to go to university to do her teacher training. I wish her continued success in the future and thank her for many years of hard work she has done at St Teresa’s. Mrs Mentha will be taking her place as Year 1 teaching assistant from September and Miss Rimmer has been appointed as the new teaching assistant in Reception working alongside Mrs McEvilly and Mrs Parkola.
Mrs Orme and Mrs Gray will be moving to the Nursery class.
Well done for collecting over 15,395 Tesco vouchers. A magnificent effort by the school, parishioners and ex-pupils ; a wide range of eco equipment has been
ordered A variety of sports equipment is also coming from Sainsbury’s.
Finally, I wish you all a very happy holiday and look forward to seeing you all on 2nd September. Please remember Nursery starts on Tuesday 7th September.
Yours sincerely
A Gavin

News has just been received that a major building project is to start next Summer at the school. A garden room is to be built at the front of the school which will enable the younger children to enjoy a larger indoor play space. This is great news as it will enable the school to look to the future with excitement.

Rising to the Challenge
An illustrated history of St Teresa’s School
The school has had quite a varied history, at one time having three schools operating on the site at the same time with over 500 pupils! During the war years the pupils spent only half the day on site since it had to share the building with the evacuees from St Joan’s Bootle.
The booklet tells the story from 1869 to the present day and includes many photographs throughout. As well as parents it may be of interest to grand parents and even great-grandparents who attended the school in the past.
The cost of the book is £2.00. If you wish a copy please call into the office or fill in the form below.
Nursery
We are shortly looking ahead to next year’s Nursery. If you know anyone with a child who is three by 31st March 2011 please encourage them to get the name of their child down quickly. It is very important that the numbers in our Nursery are respectable.
Further Ofsted News
I am very happy to be able to advise you to look at the standards page of the website to see our last Ofsted report. It is now in a far shorter version than previous ones but I feel that it does reflect the spirit of the school. I would like to say that the school would not achieve what it does without the support of parents, volunteer workers and the local community, so thank you to you all.

SCHOOL LINK NUMBER
If you are ordering books through the magazine the link number you will need is: 5228257
